Because they had nothing else to do, and their wings got tired, boobies landed on ships. Too, the sailors were resting and they wanted something to do – a booby trap would ensue.  They’d catch a booby. Then, they’d take the Booby’s fish. Then, they would share part of the fish with the booby and encourage the booby to go get more fish. They would use the other part of the fish as bait. A friendship was made – a companionship if you will. This could be the entire story of how booby traps were made. Was the trap made of boobies? A topless woman on the ship? Was it a man, just as plentiful? Was it the entire ship? Was it just the empty promise of companionship when the only real certainty was that of eventual death?
